INSTRUCTOR: GURO CHESTER D. BROWN, JR.

 

 

Chester D. Brown, Jr. was born to Cecelia Rose Brown and Chester Brown, Sr. in Denver, Colorado on June 1, 1965.  He is a member of the Navajo Nation and grew up north of Gallup, New Mexico on the Navajo Indian Reservation.

 

Chester began studying martial arts at the age of 10 years old.  The arts he studied were Tae Kwon Do, Kenpo Karate, Ninjitsu, and Escrima.

 

Chester began providing instruction to his sisters at age 16.  Chester began formally providing instruction at age 17 for women’s self defense class.

 

Chester began studying Tae Kwon Do at Fort Lewis College and continued for couple years. 

 

During Chester’s junior year in college, he began studying Modern Arnis with Datu Michael Morton.  It was then Chester’s martial arts training took a turn.

Modern Arnis class was composed of single stick, double stick, boxing, kick boxing, Muay Thai, combat escrima, jujitsu, street scenarios, largo mono, sinawali, tapi tapi, flow drills, throws, and full-contact stick fighting.

 

Chester has been studying martial arts for 27 years.  He began studying Modern Arnis formally with Datu Michael Morton in 1988, with Grand Master Remy A. Press – Modern Arnis from January, 1999 to August 2001, Grand Master Jeffery Delaney – Modern Arnis since January, 2002 - present.

 

Chester received his Advanced Instructor’s Certificate under Grand Master Remy A. Presas at the winter camp in Austin, TX on February 7, 1999.

 

In 2001, Chester was promoted to 1st Degree Black belt by Grand Master Remy A. Presas in Tucson, AZ.  Then in February 2003, Chester was promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt by Grand Master Jeffery Delaney in San Antonio, TX.  Chester was also invited to be on the Board of Directors for the International Modern Arnis Federation as the Technical Director.

 

In July, 2003 Chester was inducted to Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame in Houston, TX as “Man of Year” in Filipino Arts.

 

Chester received his basic instructor certificate on December 15, 1990 from Datu Michael Morton, Founder – North American Arnis Association.  Chester began providing instruction for the North American Arnis Association in Cortez, Colorado at the Iron Bodies Fitness Gym from February, 1990 till August, 1995.

 

Chester provided private instruction while in Graduate School at Northern Arizona University from September, 1995 till August, 1997.

 

From 1998 to 2000 Chester was studying Modern Arnis by attending winter and summer Camps with Grand Master Remy A. Presas.

 

Chester moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in July, 2002 and open his modern arnis school; NAVA-STICKS FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS.  NAVA-STICKS FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS is an affiliated school with the International Modern Arnis Federation.

 

NAVA-STICKS FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS utilizes the International Modern Arnis Federation curriculum.

 

NAVA-STICKS FILIPINO MARTIAL ARTS also provide instruction in boxing, kick boxing, muay thai, combat escrima, pressure points, street scenarios, self defense for women, healing arts, and jujitsu.

 

GURO BROWN HAS BEEN STUDYING MARTIAL ARTS FOR 27 YEARS.  HE HAS BEEN STUDYING MODERN ARNIS SINCE 1988 [13 YEARS].  GURO BROWN HAS STUDIED WITH DATU MICHAEL MORTON – NORTH AMERICAN ARNIS ASSOCIATION, GM RENE LATOSA – COMBAT ESCRIMA, REX DAVID RESSE – MUAY THAI, SENSEI BODAN SWAIN - JUJITSU, SENSEI JOSE BUENO – PROGRESSIVE SYSTEM OF MARTIAL ARTS, AND PUNONG GURO REMY P. PRESAS, JR. – MODERN ARNIS, GM MAX PALLEN – SENKOTEROS ESCRIMA, GM CACOY CANENTE – DOCE PARES, MASTER RAY BEGAYE – ED. PARKERS KENPO, GM LEON JAY – SMALL CIRCLE JUJITSU, GM GEORGE DILLMAN – KYSHO JUJITSU, AND MASTER JIM CORN - JUJITSU.
